WORKSHOPS

August 2024, Applique Cushions, making patterns from textile remnants: Art at Heart, Hackney Libraries Residency. Here, as part of this residency I ran a workshop for the library users, and here we used recycled fabrics from Yodomo, a Hackney based fabric business, to create our own designs on cushion covers.

June 2024 Pavilion On The Green, Abstract, painting and fabric collages on paper: Part of an initiative to bring the Edmonton community together every weekend at Edmonton Green Station, organised by Fisher Cheng and Enfield Council. Here, a number of different workshops, activities, and live music performances take place.

January 20th and 21st 2024: Abstract, Painting Collage Workshop - As part of my residency with Arbeit Studios, Palmers Green, 310C Green Lanes, N13 5TT.  We made collages and paintings inspired by the high street on Green Lanes in Palmers Green. Participants were encouraged to think about what their high street meant to them, and expressed it through a variety of materials such as, paints, fabrics, colouring pencils, and crayons.

September 30th 2023: Abstract Fabric Collage Painting Workshop - The Koppel Project Station,  London, UK. We created abstract fabric collage paintings on canvas board, whilst exploring the theme of family and its significance in your life. This workshop was open to anyone, and was particularly beneficial to the local Hampstead community.

August 24th 2023: Alice Made This Applique Cushion Workshop - Edmund Waller Primary School, London, UK. A level art students made their own applique cushions inspired by my art practice, using fabric glue, and basic sewing techniques. The theme was about what family means to them. The experimented with a plethora of materials including African textiles, old clothing off cuts, paper, colouring pencils, and acrylic paint.

August 9th 2023: Family Portrait Collage - Online workshop as part of my residency with InTransit, and online exhibition 'Breath, Rest, Play'. In this workshop we created collages inspired by old family photographs using, news papers, magazines, acrylic paints, colouring pencils, and coloured papers, (things easily found at home). It was also inspired by memories of family, or their imagination. The focus was about making patterns using the above mentioned materials, and to think about family and home.

April 29th 2023: Applique Cushion Making - The Living Room Library Edmonton, London, UK. Drop in session from 2-4pm. Participants of all ages will be able to design and make their own applique cushions inspired by my art practice, and to help inform the bin designs I will make for Fore Street Edmonton commission. Visitors will be encouraged to think about what home and family means to them, in order to inspire their cushion designs. All materials will be provided, but people are able to bring in their own fabrics from family clothing to make their cushions more personal.

November 2022: "To be or not to be, art... that is the question, about craft..." Artist group panel discussion and artwork demonstration at the Ferens Art Gallery, as part of New Contemporaries 2022. During the demonstration we made applique designs on canvas, which could be used for various things such as, cushions, or an individual artwork. Participants were encouraged to think about family and what home meant to them, to inspire their patterns. The materials used were recycled fabric off cuts, which was to teach people the importance of repurposing and reusing old clothes.

October 2022: Cultural Patterns: Creating Patterns From Textile Remnants, as part of the Kupfer Gallery Residency for Hackney based artists, with support from Lucille Junkere. During this Black History Month Workshop participants learnt how to transform textile fabric waste into repeat patterns using embroidery techniques, including stitching and applique. Participants made their own cushion designs, and those who were unfamiliar with sewing techniques were advised. People were allowed to bring in their own fabrics which were of cultural significance to them, however, most of the fabrics were generously provided by yodomo.co Lucille and I's practices both look at how textile can represent family history, we encouraged participants to think about what textiles meant to them, and how they could incorporate this into their own stories.
